Why the day of the week moves
A date advances by one weekday each year, because 365 days is 52 weeks plus one day. In a leap year it advances by two, which is why the weekday occasionally jumps. Over the six years in the table above you can watch both patterns: the single-step years and the leap-year double step.
This matters more than it sounds if you are planning around a weekend. An event that lands on a Saturday this year may fall midweek in two years' time, which changes everything from travel to time off.
About December 2026 Full Moon
The December 2026 full moon peaks at 01:30 UTC on December 24, 2026, at 2°14' Cancer in the tropical zodiac. Full moons always rise at sunset and set at sunrise, so the best viewing is any time the Moon is up that night — no equipment needed.
In astrology, the full moon in Cancer is considered the month's closing chapter: what began at the Cancer new moon six months earlier reaches fullness, and what is no longer working becomes impossible to ignore. Monthly full moons are the sky's built-in review meetings.
